The Australian Opal Company is a family owned company based in Adelaide and Coober Pedy, South Australia. We commenced mining on the Mintabie Opal Field in the 1970's (Mintabie is famous for black and crystal opal). Although the company remained small, our mining operations expanded to the boulder opal fields of South Western Queensland. From 1984 we focussed our mining activities at Coober Pedy, South Australia which is the largest producer of opal in the world - known as "The Opal Capital of the World."

Our company has always cut the opal we have mined and we have become a significant wholesale supplier to retail opal shops around Australia for rough opal, cut opal, opal jewellery, rare opalised fossils, opalised shells and opalised sea snails etc.(70 million years old) from Central Australia. We also cut and set opal from other fields such as Lightning Ridge, Andamooka and White Cliffs etc.

We design and manufacture locally a wide range of opal jewellery and more recently, a range of Australian sapphire jewellery.
